Entrevista Rachael Lippincott y Mikki Daughtry.

1) Dealing with death even in literature is complicated, was there anything specifically that you found hard to write? It’s always hard to write a character death. I dearly love all my characters, so killing them takes a lot out of me, but I will always do what is best for the story, even when it’s painful. I’ve personally experienced a lot of loss, enough to know that death is a mirror of life. Loss, as much as love, shapes who we are; each hurts us in its own way, and each is essential to the human experience.

1 - Hablar de la muerte incluso en la literatura es complicado, ¿hubo algo especialmente difícil de escribir? Siempre es difícil escribir la muerte de un personaje. Amo todos mis personajes, así que matarlos me cuesta mucho, pero siempre haré lo que sea mejor para la historia, incluso si es doloroso. He vivido personalmente muchas perdidas, las suficientes como para saber que la muerte es un espejo de la vida. La pérdida, al igual que el amor, configuran quiénes somos; cada uno hiere de una forma distinta, y cada uno es esencial para la experiencia humana.

 

2) Your characters are very special, do you have a favorite one? It’s hard for me to choose a favorite character. It’s like asking a parent which of their children they love the most – I love them all equally. Writing Stella, then crafting her perfect counterpart in Will, and then Poe and the rest of the Five Feet Apart crew was a joy. They are part of my heart forever. Marley, Kyle, Sam, Kim, Lydia, Benefield - these characters have lived in my soul for so long now that I don’t remember my life before them. I’ll have other characters who will mean just as much to me. Hopefully, before I’m done telling stories, there will be too many to count.

2) Tus personajes son muy especiales, ¿tienes un favorito? Es difícil para mí elegir un personaje favorito. Es como preguntarle a un padre a cuál de sus hijos quiere más. Los quiero a todos por igual. Escribir a Stella, y crear en Will a su perfecto equivalente, y luego Poe y el resto del grupo de A dos metros de ti fue una experiencia feliz. Son parte de mi corazón por siempre. Marley, Kyle, Sam, Kim, Lydia, Benefield... esos personajes han vivido en mi alma por tanto tiempo que ahora no recuerdo mi vida antes de ellos. Tendré más personajes que significarán lo mismo para mí. Con suerte, antes de dejar de contar historias, habrá demasiados como para contarlos.

 

3) When did you decide you wanted to start writing? Is that reason now the same one that keeps you doing it every day? I have always been a daydreamer. I would get in terrible trouble at school because instead of paying attention to the teacher, I was paying attention to my daydreams, making up stories in my head, telling them to anyone who would listen. It was only natural that I would become a professional storyteller by trade. I am someone who definitely lives more inside her own head than I do in the “real world,” and I like it that way.

3) ¿Cuándo decidiste empezar a escribir? ¿Es la misma razón que aún hoy te mantiene haciéndolo cada día? Siempre he soñado despierta. Me metía en tremendos problemas en el colegio porque en vez de prestar atención a la profesora, le prestaba más atención a mis sueños, inventándose historias en mi mente, contándosela a quien quisiera escucharlas. Era de esperar que me convirtiera en una narradora profesional. Soy alguien que definitivamente vive más dentro de su cabeza que en el "mundo real", y me gusta que sea así.

 

4) Do you have any advice for those who wants to start writing? Read. A lot. Then seek to find your own voice and let it be as true to yourself as possible. Every writer is unique, and so should be their stories.

4) ¿Tienes algún consejo para aquellxs que quieran empezar a escribir? Lee. Mucho. Después busca tu propia voz y deja que sea tan tú como sea posible. Cada escritor es único, y así deberían ser sus historias también.

 

5) We are completely sure that when LITERALI Box’s readers finish All This Time they will want more. Could you tell us something about any future projects? I’ve got a lot of fun things coming in the next few years. Right this very second, I’m writing and executive producing the movie version of All This Time for Lionsgate, and another of my current projects, Nightbooks, is set to premiere on Netflix in September 2021. I’m very blessed to be a busy woman.

Tengo muchas cosas divertidas para los próximos años. En este mismo instante, estoy escribiendo y produciendo de manera ejecutiva la adaptación cinematográfica de Todo este tiempo para Lionsgate, y de otro de mis proyectos actuales, Nightbooks, que se estrenará en Netflix en septiembre de 2021. Estoy muy agradecida de ser una mujer ocupada.
